Combating Media’s Image

The media plays a large role in our concept of beauty. We are fed one aspect of beauty in such an abundance that we begin to forget all the other ways in which we are beautiful. We have to arm ourselves with the proper tools to tear through the media’s representation and implement our own concepts into the mix.

A few practical ways to fight media’s messages of fantasy beauty:

  1. Strengthen your personal awareness. Remember who you are, what goals you have, what your strengths are, what motivates you. Make sure this is clear to yourself so you can be confident in it. Use to media to push you towards your goals, not define them for you. (Strengthen Your Personal Locus)
  2. Change the way you react to media. Don’t let your confidence be shaken. Remember your worth. Remember all the things that make you a unique and beautiful individual. Don’t compromise your worth by believing the lies. Let your actions reflect a person who see’s their worth and knows their beauty. (Change Behaviors)
  3. Filter through the fantasy face media presents you with. Yes, all the models and actress and singers and whoever are crazy beautiful, but they have more to offer than what their looks can bring. And so do you. Don’t get caught in a fantasy of the perfect image. There is always more to a person than what meets the eye. (Think About the Reality- Fantasy Continuum)
